WHAT IS PLASTIC SURGERY?
|
|
Plastic surgery is a specialist surgical craft whose
aim is to remodel certain body structures in order to improve their
function and appearance. The word "plastic" is derived from
the Greek word "plastikos" meaning "suitable for
moulding". The plastic surgeon must work to achieve both good
aesthetic and functional results. Modern Plastic Surgery encompasses
many aspects in Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeries. Some plastic
surgeons are principally involved with a specific interest which
include reconstruction after trauma, burns and cancer surgery. Whilst
others have extensive interest in hand and microsurgery.

COSMETIC SURGERY (also termed aesthetic Surgery)
|
|
Aesthetic plastic surgery is the branch of plastic
surgery which is focused on form and appearance. Its aim is to improve
the appearance of various areas of the body that are unpleasant in size
or shape due to genetic or acquired causes.
Cosmetic surgery has become an increasingly important part of Plastic
Surgery as new surgical techniques and sophisticated anesthesia enable
surgery to be safely undertaken for the improvement of personal
appearance. The goal of Aesthetic Surgery is to correct those defects
or alterations which concern the person, causing psychological
problems. For example, correction of facial or eyelid wrinkling, nasal
remodeling and reduction, breast augmentation or reduction, and reduction
of fat accumulation in certain areas of the body. Each year millions of
men and women of all ages improve their appearance and enhance the
quality of their lives with cosmetic surgery. Modern techniques like
laser skin resurfacing and edoscopic techniques allow for smaller
incisions and quicker recovery. These are just two of the many exciting
advancements in modern surgery that provide more options and choices
for patients.
